Concert-meeting with the composer, philosopher and musicologist Vladimir Martynov, who witnessed the arrival of Igor Stravinsky in Russia in 1962. The composer spoke about his meeting with I. Stravinsky and performed his own work “Dancing with a Dead Friend” (“Dancing on the Shore”), 2004.

As part of the Stravinsky Theater exhibition, Alexei Lyubimov (People's Artist of the Russian Federation) and Alexei Zuev (laureate of the St. Richter Piano Competition) performed the music of Igor Stravinsky: Playing Cards, Petrushka, Sonatas and pieces in 4 hands.

On June 7, 2018, the scientific and practical conference "Theater Oranienbaum" was held at the Lomonosov Museum of Local Lore, within the framework of which the exhibition "The Theater in Oranienbaum" was opened.

In preparation for the conference, the museum staff did a lot of research work in the historical archives of St. Petersburg, the newspaper fund of the Russian National Library, the State St. Petersburg Theater Library. The study and analysis of the richest material formed the basis of interesting informative reports by the museum staff.

Numerous guests gathered in the cozy conference hall of the museum - employees of museums, libraries, local historians, residents of the city of Lomonosov, who are interested in the history of their city. Elena Maslova, Head of the Department of Culture of the Petrodvorets District Administration, and Yulia Kuchuk, Director of the Museum of Local Lore, delivered a welcoming speech to the assembled guests and participants. 

The conference participants presented the results of their research to the audience in the form of excellent presentations. The speakers gave a deep analysis of the repertoire of the Oranienbaum summer theaters, introduced the audience to the content of the capital and local newspapers of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries, unique archival materials that were studied for the first time and introduced into scientific circulation. 

Interesting meaningful reports were made by the head of the scientific sector of the music library of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory A.A. Alekseev-Boretsky and a member of the International Association of Art Critics, founder and director of the Igor Stravinsky Foundation A.I. Kozachenko-Stravinsky, a descendant of the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater F.I. Stravinsky.

International scientific conference "Stravinsky is alive!" opens in Moscow.  It is dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the birth of I. F. Stravinsky

As part of the Stravinsky Year, the State Institute of Art Studies, together with the International Musicological Society (IMS), organized a conference, the purpose of which is to introduce into scientific circulation little-studied materials and documents in our country that clarify, concretize, and reveal aspects of I. F. Stravinsky's work in the context of world musical culture and in conjunction with other arts. 

The main directions of the conference: 

  • previously unpublished in Russian historical documents relating to the life and work of I. F. Stravinsky; 

  • topical issues of the study of the creative heritage of I. F. Stravinsky and his impact on his contemporaries; 

  • I. F. Stravinsky and musical theater; 

  • IF Stravinsky and the 21st century •memoirs and epistolary concerning Stravinsky in the context of the events of the 20th century.

V  sections  "Stravinsky: Between East and West"  there will be presentations by both Russian and foreign musicologists from Kazakhstan, the Netherlands and Switzerland (Basel).

Special screening of the film “Once Upon a Time on the Border. Igor Stravinsky"

On May 27 at 14:15 at the Documentary Film Center the audience will be presented with Tony Palmer's film Once Upon a Time on the Border. Igor Stravinsky”, which has never been shown in Russia on a wide screen.  

British director Tony Palmer has made over 100 films from The Beatles, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher (Irish Tour '74) and Frank Zappa (200 Motels) to Maria Callas, Margot Fontaine, John Osborne, Richard Wagner, Yehudi Menuhin,  Carl Orff, Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

In 1981, almost nine months before the centenary of Igor Stravinsky, director Tony Palmer and editor of the State Radio and Television Pavel Korchagin finished filming the documentary film Once Upon a Time on the Border. Igor Stravinsky” (“Once at a border. Igor Stravinsky”). This biopic includes never-before-seen documents, photographs, and film footage. Milena, Fyodor and Svyatoslav-Sulima Stravinsky, Vera Stravinskaya, Jean Cocteau, Serge Lifar, Nadia Boulanger, Benny Goodman, Robert Kraft, and many other friends and colleagues talk about the composer.

At the end of the film, there will be a discussion with director Tony Palmer.
