STRAVINSKY'S THEATER

Moscow
2019

The Stravinsky's Theater is a project that combines contemporary art and archival materials. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 175th anniversary of the great bass of the Mariinsky Theatre, father of Igor Stravinsky, Fyodor Ignatievich Stravinsky, and is held as part of the Year of the Theatre, which is announced in 2019.

For 80 years, the legacy of the Stravinsky family has been divided into two cities - St. Petersburg and Moscow. In the summer of 2018, the archive was reunited. This project is the first attempt to study and comprehend materials that have never before been shown to the general public and were not available to Stravinists. This is an immersive study that will allow you to look through the prism of contemporary art at the figure of Igor Stravinsky and his family members - to create new narratives.

All participants of the exhibition are actors of the theatre, behind the scenes of which the viewer gets: the “dressing rooms” of the artists; the lobbies where we hear stories about the composer; rehearsal; orchestra pit; conductor's room and even an "observatory" of sound. Each of the works of contemporary artists is connected with the life and work of the composer, and creates a parallel between history and modernity, archival material and contemporary art, classics and new media.

The project included works by more than 30 participants: not only artists, but also actors, writers, musicians.

The opening will feature a performance by Alexei Goncharenko, as well as musical excerpts from the famous works of the composer.
